The planned trip

My parents have been planning to come and visit me here in Barcelona for months now. The last time I saw them was over a year and a half ago. They are due to arrive in ten days and they are coming from Toronto. A few days ago the government called my father to tell him that he is being called for jury duty and his presence is requested on a day that coincides with the planned trip to Barcelona. Earlier on in the year he was called for the same thing but was able to get out of it because he had to take care of his mother who was very sick at the time. The lawyer told my father that they are usually not very lenient especially because this is the second time and a vacation is not a good excuse get out of public civil  service. In any case my father submitted documentation to show that the plane tickets are already bought and the hotel is already booked, and I started to pray to Dora who always helps me. Sure enough, yesterday the government called my father to tell him that his jury duty is being postponed to September. Thank you Dora!!!

In the nick of time

It is Thursday, 5th January, the eve of the Epiphany, and as I leave the house I walk into reception to check whether the much awaited package has arrived, although by this stage I am beginning to lose faith in its timely arrival. On the 17th of December my parents, who were visiting my brothers in London, prepared a box of presents and Christmas goodies with the hope that they would arrive in time for Christmas; but what with the usual Christmas back-log and postal delays, Christmas Day came and went with no sign of the package. Since here inRomewhere I am studying we traditionally open our presents sent by the three Kings on the eve of the feast of the Epiphany, I began praying to Dora so that the package would arrive in time. I knew that it would make my parents very happy to know that the presents were received, so I encouraged my mother to pray to Dora as well. Seeing as Dora spent her entire life attentive to the needs of those around her, I was sure that she would be the best person to whom I could entrust this consignment. I began the novena. Now I think I really should ask her for more things because she is an amazing intercessor: not only did the present arrive just in time, but was the cause of great joy to others – something I am sure Dora would have liked.

All were clear

A few weeks back, a bag of a friend of mine was stolen while she was in her furniture shop. Inside the bag were her documents (driver’s license), her credit cards and some money. By the time she realized it, an hour had already passed. She immediately called to inform us of what had happened. We told her to call the banks to stop the credit cards and told her to pray to Dora that the ones who stole the bags have not made any purchases or transactions using the credit cards (since this is the first thing they do). We prayed to Dora for this intention and after a few minutes, she told us that the banks have checked if transactions were made using these cards and she was told that all were clear.

The day after, this same friend of mine went to the pier to check if the shipment of their ordered furniture from Chinahad arrived. Before going there, she passed by a market to buy some things. Seeing that her shoes were new and that it would be sullied, she decided to buy a pair of slippers in the market place. Going back home from the market and the pier, she noticed that she did not have her new pair of shoes. She told us of what had happened and said that she will only be able to go back to the marketplace the following day since she had other things to do. We told her to pray to Dora again that she be able to find the store and the pair of shoes. The next day, she called us up to say that she did find the store and that the girl in the store recognized her as the one who left the shoes. She is now starting to have a devotion to Dora.

Help for my sister

On Monday, October 26, I was given the prayer card for private devotion to Dora del Hoyo. I immediately realized that she was the person who could help me resolve a situation.

I live with my widowed sister who is losing her memory. Her children are not nearby, and they suggested that I look for someone to stay with her for two hours each afternoon so that I could have some time for myself. Read the rest of this entry »

Opening the file

Dora with Ascension and Julia

I am grateful to Dora for this favor which she did for me a short time after she went to heaven.

I was ready to work on the computer using a file that I had saved on a diskette, but I received an error message telling me that it was impossible to open the file. I tried to open it in different ways, but without success. I decided to to change the name of the file, renaming it “Trimester Dora.” From that moment on, I have had no trouble opening that file.

I got my voice back without noticing

On January 12 of this year I had to teach for two hours. At the end of the first hour I started to lose my voice, and I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to continue lecturing for the second hour. During the break, which was very brief, I tried to find some medication that would help my voice. I couldn’t find anything, so I asked Dora to keep me from losing my voice.
I went back into the classroom and got distracted by a conversation with some of the students. I started the class without realizing that my voice was fine. At the time I didn’t notice, and it was only several hours later that I remembered that I had asked Dora for this favor and realized that she had done it for me, immediately and discreetly.

Without time or money for a repairman

We rented an apartment for our vacation. After we used the dishwasher two or three times, it stopped working and we couldn’t get it going again. I tried to figure out the cause of the problem, but without success. The next day my father, who is an engineer, tried again, and he, too, couldn’t get it to work.

Because it was almost time to leave and we didn’t have the time or money to call a repairman, I decided to leave this problem in Dora’s hands. The day before we were to leave, after having prayed to get the dishwasher working again, I put Dora’s prayer card next to the machine. Read the rest of this entry »

The best assistant of my life

10 02 2012

My mother is 86 years old and therefore needs help around the house. She was without a home aide and in a precarious situation. I prayed a novena to Dora, asking for a good home aide to help my mother. Finally a woman from Paraguay showed up, and my mother says she is the best helper she has ever had in her life–and my mother is an old lady and had had many helpers in her long life. I am sending in this testimony as a way of thanking Dora for helping out in this situation that was so similar to the professional work to which she dedicated her life.

Dora, pull us out of this hole!

3 02 2012

I want to tell about a miracle which Dora worked for me. About one and a half months ago there was a freeze in our region which caused my husband to postpone his work and made many things more difficult. We have a large family of nine children. My husband began working on his own, because the firm where he had worked had gone bankrupt and closed months ago. Fortunately he is well trained, and he started offering training classes and launched his own business. Read the rest of this entry »

Educated, willing, and cheerful…

25 01 2012

I have four children who are 8, 6, 5, and 3 years old. For two months I had been looking for someone to help me with the housework and the children. Discouraged, I told my mother-in-law that the next morning I was going to call a girl without any references. She gave me the prayer card and she told me, “Ask Dora and she will help you.”  Not very convinced, I did pray to her that night. The girl turned out to be an excellent worker, educated, willing, cheerful, patience and affectionate with the children. I am very grateful.

P.S. In my city it is very difficult to find someone who can care for a home responsibly and, above all and most importantly, who is good with children. Many thanks!

Household troubles

4 01 2012

Recently I moved to another apartment, and I was very tired, my nerves were on edge, and I was down to the last penny. I had obtained Dora’s prayer card. The first night that we spent in the new apartment, still full of boxes and cartons, the gas wouldn’t work. I called the gas company, but was told that it was not their problem. A little later the lights wouldn’t work, and we couldn’t even find what we needed in order to go to bed for the night. I called the light company and they, too, told me that it was not their problem. We went to bed, exhausted but in good spirits. Before I fell asleep I asked Dora, “I’m sure that you get anything you want, but I am “only” going to ask that all these problems be easy to fix and not cost any money.” And that is just how it turned out! I prayed to Dora …

6 12 2011

Dora del Hoyo

I wanted to write with a favor that I received from Dora. I had a friend coming to town for a few days, and we agreed to meet at the train station on the platform where her train was going to arrive. I went there to meet her at the appointed time, but she didn´t appear. Neither of us had cell phones, so there was no way of getting in contact and after two and a half hours of waiting and wandering through the train station looking for her, I was beginning to get desperate.
I prayed to Dora that we would find each other somehow. Then I decided to go to an internet cafe to look up the telephone number of her hostel. I called the hostel and just as I was talking to the receptionist, my friend walked through the door. It turned out that she had been waiting in a different area of the train station, given up waiting for me, and walked to her hostel herself. Anyway, we got in touch, met up a little later that day, and had a wonderful time together. Thank you, Dora!
